Pittsburgh group using roller skating to connect with inner city youth

PITTSBURGH — A Pittsburgh group is using roller skating to connect with inner city youth. Roller Skate Connection of Pittsburgh held a pop-up event for kids and adults in the Hill District.

“Our vision is to be... a community resource for youth and families. And what we want to do is go into the schools of Pittsburgh Public Schools and charter schools. We want to teach the kids quad roller skating and how it correlates with science, technology and math,” said founder Juaneece Clark. “It’s mental therapy for a lot of kids to use these days. They need something to do here in Pittsburgh. We just want to provide a fun exciting resource.”

The nonprofit plans to hold more events for students throughout the year.
