Pittsburgh Post-Gazette cutting Friday print edition, union says

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is planning to cut its Friday print edition newspaper from circulation according to a letter obtained and posted online by the Newspaper Guild of Pittsburgh, a union representing many of the workers at the Post-Gazette.

According to the letter, the Post-Gazette will cut its Friday paper on Feb. 27 as part of its commitment to becoming a digital news organization, an effort the company launched on June 26, 2018. The Post-Gazette first eliminated two days of print circulation on Aug. 25, 2018, followed by two additional cuts to daily circulation on Sept. 30, 2019.

“These actions by the Company are part of the Company’s entrepreneurial and First Amendment decision to deliver our news content exclusively through digital platforms,” Carolyn J. Rice, human resources and labor relations business partner at the Post-Gazette, said in the letter.
