Pittsburgh Public Schools pushes back start of winter sports

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Public School District announced that it will delay the start of winter sports until at least Dec. 3.

According to a release, the District 8 Athletic Committee met Wednesday and made the recommendation to Superintendent Anthony Hamlet following the recent increase in COVID-19 cases and the stay-at-home advisory issued by the Allegheny County Health Department.

The district reported the committee will revisit the recommendation on Dec. 2 and will provide an update.

Practices for winter sports were set to begin tomorrow.

Last week, PPS announced it will continue remote learning until Jan. 4, 2021.
