Pittsburgh’s Garbage Olympics looking for volunteers to help clean city streets

PITTSBURGH — The fifth Annual Garbage Olympics will get underway this weekend and organizers are looking for volunteers.

The event will take place Saturday from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. It has grown over the years from just a handful of neighborhoods in Pittsburgh’s East End to over 34 communities across the city.

Prizes are awarded for most trash collected, largest team, weirdest item found and most spirit. In the most recent event, almost 1,000 bags of trash were collected from city streets.

The closing ceremony will take place at Threadbare Cider from noon until 2 p.m.
