Police investigating package thefts in Ross Township as holiday shopping gets underway

ROSS TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Home surveillance cameras in Ross Township captured thieves targeting townhomes in the Highland Village development.

One resident’s camera caught two masked vandals grabbing packages off their porch Tuesday morning around 5 a.m.

Video from another camera showed the suspects breaking into a car in the same neighborhood.

Alex Stavros’ security footage shows the thieves attempting to break into his girlfriend’s car.

“It’s a little uneasy, a little unsettling,” he said reacting to the incident.

Luckily his girlfriend’s car was locked and nothing was taken.  Other neighbors were not as fortunate.

“A couple of the instances, people left their cars unlocked, so I think the onus falls on those folks, but by no means should people be walking through the neighborhood pulling on door handles and stealing peoples’ packages,” said Stavros.

Stavros installed his security camera after two cars were stolen from his neighborhood earlier this year.

“There’s a light that comes on when someone comes up to the door, but they still tried to get into our cars,” he said.

When we caught up with Stavros on Wednesday, he had just come from talking to Ross Township Police.

Investigators say they are looking into the thefts.

Property management company, Walnut Capital, alerted residents, sending out an email advising them to lock their cars and bring in packages as soon as possible.

Channel 11 reached out to the company but did not hear back.

If you’ve been targeted by the porch pirates, or you know anything about the recent thefts, you’re asked to contact Ross Township Police.
