Police: Man planned to shoot judge, courthouse in jailhouse plot

Police said Timothy Butler planned an attack from his jail cell for more than two months.

According to the criminal complaint, Butler, who is in jail on a separate assault charge, told his cellmate he hated Beaver County and many employees including a common pleas court judge, Beaver County detective and several probation officers.

Butler wanted to kidnap the jail guard, shoot a county detective with a rifle and shoot up Beaver County Courthouse with an automatic weapon, according to a criminal complaint obtained only by Channel 11.

Among the people he wanted to target was a local judge, police said.
