Police: Man struck, killed by tractor-trailer on I-79 walked into traffic on purpose

JACKSON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A man who was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer Thursday morning  in Butler County walked into traffic on purpose, police said.

The incident was reported shortly after 7:30 a.m. on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township.

State police told Channel 11's Amy Marcinkiewicz that the tractor-trailer was driving in the northbound lanes of I-79 when the 39-year-old man walked into the roadway and was hit.

Police said the truck driver did all he could to avoid the man, slowing down and swerving. The truck driver had surveillance cameras in his cab and police are reviewing that video, investigators said.

Police said the victim was a local man, but are not releasing his identity. They are continuing to investigate, but the truck driver will not face charges.
