Police: Man’s car stolen from local Pep Boys parking lot as it waited to be fixed

PITTSBURGH — A man was arrested after police said he stole another man’s car from a Pep Boys parking lot as it waited to be fixed by a mechanic.

According to a police criminal complaint, the victim dropped off his vehicle at the Pep Boys on South Millvale Avenue in Boomfield last week.

When his mechanic reached out, it wasn’t to tell him the car was fixed; rather, it was nowhere to be found.

Investigators said officers later found the stolen Volkswagen being driven down Brown Way before the driver and passengers got out and tried to run. One of those people was arrested -- identified as 19-year-old Jaden Washington.

Washington was charged with receiving stolen property, among other charges.

A Pep Boys spokesperson issued the following statement that reads, in part: “This was an unfortunate, random crime that occurred outside of a Pep Boys location, and we’re grateful to the police department for quickly recovering the vehicle...”
