Police said the 28-year-old woman reported that around 2 a.m. the two were involved in a physical incident after the man refused to leave the woman’s home. The woman was repeatedly assaulted, and physically held against her will for approximately three hours, police said.

During the assault, the man threatened to kill the woman, and began looking for the woman’s legally owned gun, which she kept in her home. The woman was able to get to the gun first and shot the man as he came towards her. She then left the home and contacted 911, police said.

When the investigation is complete, the case will be turned over to the Allegheny County District Attorney’s office to determine if charges are warranted.
