Nina Esposito Visgitis has been fighting for Pittsburgh Public School teachers to be vaccinated.
“I think schools could have been opened earlier and I think people could have gone back feeling much safer,” she said.
She thinks vaccinating teachers should have been done much sooner.
“I had heard it from a lot of colleagues across the country when I had meetings with the American Federation of Teachers. I had wished very much that Pennsylvania was one of those,” she said.
State leaders are set to make an announcement about vaccinating teachers with the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. Locally, there have been supply issues, leading to clinics and appointments being rescheduled.
The Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers said they’re waiting for more guidance from the district on how they plan to go about having teachers vaccinated.
