Recently passed bill could accelerate 5G deployment across Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — Pennsylvania passed House Bill 1621, or the Small Wireless Facilities Deployment Act, in a move that could make the Pittsburgh region more competitive with other tech hubs around the country.

This bill created a “uniform, consistent and predictable” process for the deployment of small cell nodes across the state, according to Ashley Henry Shook, a spokesperson for the PA Partnership for 5G.

“Full passage of the bill cements Pennsylvania’s reputation as an innovation leader and positions the state to secure funds from the $275 billion in private capital available to build 5G networks across the country,” Shook said. “…Now that we have uniform regulations, the PA Partnership for 5G looks forward to continuing our work to get Pennsylvanians the connectivity they deserve.”
