Rising demand putting strain on businesses conducting, analyzing COVID-19 tests

PITTSBURGH — With more and more industries and venues requiring proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test result, you could find yourself waiting longer to get tested.

“People are willing to pay a premium to get a test to go to an event because they have to have it,” said CEO Dave Colaizzi of Signature Diagnostics.

Colaizzi’s company is a research clinic and a COVID-19 testing lab. He said the researchers usually have the results within hours. He said there’s such a high demand for testing that he’s had to hire more staff and increase their hours.

He said some venues have reached out to his business asking if there’s a way to rapidly test people waiting in line at concerts and have the results back before the show starts.
