Road conditions continue to be slick for drivers Saturday morning

There are still slick conditions for drivers this morning.

Our WPXI Saturday morning crew has been out driving around the city this morning checking on conditions, and found that more snow flurries have fallen on top of the 5.1 inches of snow that came down on Christmas Day – breaking the record for snowfall on Christmas Day. The previous record was 3 1/2 inches, set in 1935.

The roads were treacherous last night.

On Observatory Hill a car skid off the road and crashed through a fence. The driver was not hurt.

We talked to a neighbor who said the street, with the icy conditions, isn’t safe.

“I said, this is a very dangerous hill. I don’t know why you tried that. You know, you can’t go down this hill — it’s bad. No salt trucks will come down here. we need a salt truck,” Linda Glenn, a resident of the street, said.

And over in Butler County all 42 PennDOT trucks have been out treating and plowing the roadways.

Officials tell Channel 11 the drifting snow and icy spots made for some dangerous road conditions.

And there are still slippery spots there this morning.

If your road is still covered with snow and you want to know who is responsible for the street, Allegheny County has a website for that. It has an interactive map that tells you who handles the plowing and salting for any specific road in the area. Click here to find out more.
