HEMPFIELD TWP. — A year after a Hempfield Township man went missing, authorities again searched a wooded area near his home on Wednesday to try to find some trace of him and bring answers to his family.
Marcus A. Schoener was last seen on Wenclif Lane in Hilltop Estates on April 8, 2020. Schoener was reported to have left his home without his phone, laptop or money, but police did say a handgun was missing from the home.
Schoener turned 20 last month and should have graduated from Hempfield High School last year. His mother told WPXI that it wasn’t like him to go somewhere without telling her.
“He never left the house. He was just finishing up his senior year, so he still had a couple months to go,” Jennifer Schoener said. “It’s very hard to believe it’s been a year tomorrow. He’s very smart. Very, very funny when he wants to be. We just miss him terribly.”
State police and search and rescue crews have canvassed the area multiple times over the last year and said with an offer to help from an outside agency, they searched again today. They don’t believe there’s anything suspicious surrounding his disappearance.
But the family is holding out hope they get some kind of answer as to where Marcus is.
“We just want answers. I mean, we just want him to come home or call us. That’s all we want,” Jennifer Schoener said.
