State officials: Teacher vaccinations ahead of schedule

PITTSBURGH — State officials said Friday that teacher vaccinations are ahead of schedule.

Nearly 84,000 teachers and school staff members have been vaccinated against COVD-19 in just the last 10 days. That also includes bus drivers, cafeteria workers and janitors.

Gov. Tom Wolf said he’s been tracking the data every day. He said the state is two weeks ahead of schedule when it comes to vaccinating teachers.

“Time is of the essence for getting our kids back to school faster than we even expected,” Wolf said.

Elementary and intermediate school teachers and staff were vaccinated first. Those in high schools will be the last ones to get the vaccine. By the end of the weekend, more than 94,000 doses in the initial shipment of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will have been administered.
