PITTSBURGH — Three African lion cubs were born at the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium, zoo officials announced Thursday.
Born July 16, one of the cubs is a girl and two are boys. They and their mother are doing well, spending time behind-the-scenes in the Animal Care Center while the new lion exhibit is being renovated, zoo officials said.

Zoo officials said the cubs started nursing right away.
The African lion births are the first at the zoo since 1975.
A new lion pride was announced at the zoo in June. It now consists of a 3-year-old boy, a pair of 3-year-old girls and the three new lion cubs.
