SWAT arrests man wanted for Washington County shootings after months-long search

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Multiple SWAT teams from two counties were able to arrest a man wanted for attempted homicide in Washington County after a months-long search that included tips that the suspect was as far away as Florida.

Police had been searching for Maceo Saunders for four months before getting a tip that he was in a home just two miles from the scene of his two alleged shootings. He faces multiple counts of attempted homicide after police said he shot a man on a corner on Ridge Avenue on the grass in front of a group of children.

That shooting was caught on surveillance camera.

Investigators searched for Saunders for two months. In May, police said Saunders then shot into a car along the same street, hitting one man and an unintended victim: a 17-year-old girl who was in the backseat. In that incident, police said Saunders allegedly shot into the car five times before speeding off.

Channel 11′s Cara Sapida spoke to both victims’ families Thursday who said they are relieved to hear about his arrest.

Saunders is due in court later this month.
