Target gets approval for a store at site of former Kaufmann’s in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Planning Commission on Tuesday unanimously approved a plan for Target to open a store at a historic downtown location.

According to our partners at the Pittsburgh Business Times, the store will be constructed on the site of the former Kaufmann’s at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Smithfield Street.

Target announced the new store, which will sell food and groceries and include a pharmacy, will be five times smaller than that of its typical stores.

The company also stated it will honor the building’s history and the experience of looking through display windows.
