Teen arrested in shooting death of Pittsburgh Central Catholic student last year

PENN HILLS, Pa. — Police arrested and charged a 17-year-old in connection with the shooting death of a Pittsburgh Central Catholic student last year.

According to Allegheny County Police detectives, Timothy Whitfield Jr. was identified as one of the people responsible for the death of Jafar Brooks. Whitfield is currently being held in a youth detention center in Berks County near Philadelphia.

Officials said he will be brought back to Allegheny County to face charges including homicide, robbery, criminal conspiracy and gun charges.

Brooks was 15 at the time he was gunned down in Penn Hills last December Officers were called to Garden Drive shortly before 1 a.m. after someone called 911 to report a shooting. Brooks was found shot several times and lying next to an Escalade in the parking lot. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
