Two arrested by sheriffs on gun crimes

Two men were arrested by the Allegheny County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday after being wanted in unconnected gun crimes.

Nick Molina, 25, of McKeesport, and Darnell Arrington-Haley, 30, of Pittsburgh, had both been featured on the Allegheny County Sheriff’s website as Firearm Crime Fugitives.

Molina had been wanted on three separate bench warrants dating back to Aug. 5, 2020, for violations of probation/parole and bond forfeiture. Two of the three warrants stemmed from incidents where Molina was charged with firearms not to be carried without a license.

Around 8:45 a.m. Wednesday, deputies went to an apartment on Midway Drive in West Mifflin and knocked at the door. Molina answered, and was immediately taken into custody. While speaking with deputies, Molina stated that there were firearms in the residence. A handgun and rifle frame were found, police said.

Arrington-Haley was also wanted on a violation of probation/parole. The warrant, which was issued on Dec. 4, 2020, stems from a 2015 guilty plea.

On April 15, 2015, Arrington-Haley was arrested on an array of charges, including persons not to possess, use, manufacture, control, sell or transfer firearms; and carrying a firearm without a license. As part of the guilty plea, Arrington-Haley was placed on probation/parole, which he violated in late 2020.

After a brief investigation, deputies believed that Arrington-Haley was staying at a home in the 1200 block of Kirkpatrick Avenue in Braddock. At about 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, deputies arrived and identified themselves multiple times. Eventually, Arrington-Haley surrendered himself and appeared at the front door, where he was taken into custody without incident.

Both Arrington-Haley and Molina were taken to the Allegheny County Jail, where they were lodged on the active bench warrants. Molina will await arraignment on new charges regarding the firearms seizure.
