Vandals cause extensive damage to Beaver County school, reward being offered

DARLINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — A Beaver County school district is offering a reward for information after vandals caused significant damage to an elementary school.

Windows were smashed all around the old Northwestern Elementary School, and its nearby field house was broken into and litter tossed all over.

Darlington Township police said they believe the incident happened over the weekend and a maintenance crew with the Blackhawk School District discovered the damage and reported it Monday morning.

“In their course of checking school grounds, they determined that multiple windows were broken around the school, the latest count was up near 50 windows broken out by different means,” said Chief Al Filauri of the Darlingtown Township police. “The damage amount is going to be high. I don’t have that estimate at this time but it’s going to be costly.”

The district listed the property for sale at the end of last year. Now it is offering a reward for information leading to who caused the damage.

Police said they are following some leads. There has been some vandalism and mischief in the area from time to time but nothing this significant, police said.
