Virtual job fair could provide new career opportunities for people in our area

PITTSBURGH — Unemployment is of course a big issue right now, but there is a virtual event happening Wednesday that could provide new opportunities, including part- and full-time jobs, for people in our area.

The event is hosted by the Pittsburgh Technology Council and it involves a number of big employers, including Amazon, CGI, PNC and Sheetz. It’s happening from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is mainly for technical jobs.

Candidates and employers will connect in chat rooms and have the option to interview over video.

Any event like this is critical, considering that close to 2 million Pennsylvanians have filed for unemployment since mid-March alone.

With that being the case, Gov. Tom Wolf has rolled out his recovery phase plan.

Among the proposals are increasing the minimum wage, expanding student loan forgiveness programs, strengthening unemployment and workers comp insurance systems, and more.

You can find more information about the job fair on the Pittsburgh Technology Council’s website.
