WASHINGTON COUNTY, Pa. — At least a dozen employees of Washington Health System have been suspended after an investigation into accessing patient records.
Nearly two weeks after a horrible crash killed a woman at a WHS building, a senior hospital administrator confirmed to Channel 11 that the employees were looking into one to two patients who were involved in a "high profile case".
Washington Health System vice president Larry Pantuso would not confirm which case or in which building the employees worked, but did say they could be fired as a result.
Channel 11 has learned WHS has stringent internal auditing in place, which tipped off administrators to the breech.
An internal investigation is also still working to determine if it's a HIPPA violation, but they're taking the investigation very seriously and have assigned a team of human resource workers to it.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, there could be employees terminated. Administrators are expected to release more information at that time.
