Wexford man facing criminal charges in California wastewater investigation

SANTA ANA, Calif. — A Wexford man who used to own a wastewater treatment facility in Orange, California was indicted after investigators said he was involved in a scheme to discharge untreated waste into the county sewer system in violation of environmental laws.

Tim Miller, 64, and Klean Waters, Inc. were named in the two-count indictment.

Court papers said the scheme dates back to when the company was founded in 2012 and continued for years. Miller and the company are accused of failing to pretreat wastewater according to federal standards, not performing self-monitoring, making false statements about the discharges, tampering with county monitoring devices and preventing inspectors from taking samples at the company’s facility.

If convicted, Miller faces a maximum of eight years in federal prison. The company could be forced to pay fines of up to $300,000.
