What’s being done to make sure day cares, camps open safely

Six weeks ago, the owner of Justabout Kids day care in Peters Township had to shut down. Now, she can reopen Monday after getting a waiver from the state.

Miss T. said drop off and pick up of children will be done outside, every child will have their temperature checked and each kid has to bring their own food to help limit interaction.

Also, children over 2 will have to wear masks, which will be challenging.

Keeping kids 6 feet apart is a challenge, as well, so they are using songs to teach about personal space.

The organazation has 14 locations and for now, its first come first serve

“We might have to turn some away,” said Todd Brinkman, the vice president of YMCA Greater Pittsburgh.

But that’s the last thing they want to do so they came up with some alternatives, like possibly adding more sites.

The camp plans to keep kids in separate rooms, playing in small groups with the same staff member.

Kids will have to wash their hands every hour and not share toys.

The YMCA still plans to start day camps on June 1, but that could change.
