Woman's car hits gas meter while driving 3 children to school

PITTSBURGH — A car struck a gas meter Monday morning as a woman was driving her three children to school, officials said.

The car was driving along Nobles Lane in Pittsburgh’s Carrick neighborhood when it slid off the road about 8:30 a.m., just minutes after the woman left her house.

“I got a phone call 10 minutes later saying she'd crashed. She slipped off the road,” Evan Ladd, the woman’s boyfriend, said.

The meter stopped the car from striking a house and no one was injured, officials said.

Ladd picked up the children and took them to school while his girlfriend went with the tow truck.

Columbia Gas crews were called to make sure the gas line did not rupture.

Pittsburgh Public Works crews salted the road, which was closed for a short time after the crash.
