Youth football program canceled because of COVID-19 pandemic

NORTH VERSAILLES, Pa. — Another program has been canceled because of COVID-19 pandemic.

The East Allegheny Youth Football Association canceled their season. Parents said they're taking no chances when it comes to their kids' safety.

Their practice field in North Versailles will remain quiet after organizers said they were forced to cancel their regularly scheduled youth football program.

The pandemic, along with low registration and a lack of volunteers and staff willing to participate, led to the decision.

Just days ago there was an open call for concession workers, coaches for all three teams and a COVID-19 representative.

The organization made the announcement on their Facebook page.

People who live in the community said it's a challenging and risky situation.

“There’s nothing we can do. There’s nothing anyone can do. If you haven’t gotten the backing of the district and everything like that. Haven’t got anything for the kids,” said John Wright of North Versailles.

Parents say they’re now working to find other ways to keep their kids busy and out of harm’s way.
