Authorities initiated a chase around 7 a.m. Wednesday after a member of the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Department’s Fugitive Task Force spotted a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer in southwest Lincoln that was believed to be stolen, the Lincoln Journal Star reported. The deputy dropped the pursuit due to weather conditions, but another deputy saw the SUV about an hour later, the newspaper reported.

Lancaster County Sheriff Terry Wagner told the Journal Star authorities attempted to stop the car on U.S. 77, but the driver fled into the westbound lanes of Interstate 80. While the driver was trying to exit on Northwest 48th Street, he lost control of the SUV, causing it to roll, the Nebraska Radio Network reported.

All four people in the vehicle were ejected by the crash, according to KLKN-TV.

One person was killed in the crash. Officials with Nebraska State Patrol identified the victim as 14-year-old Zayne Yost, according to KOLN. The Journal Star reported Zayne was a freshman at Lincoln Northeast High School.

The other three people in the SUV were between the ages of 14 and 16, according to KOLN. They were taken to get medical treatment after the crash, the news station reported. Their injuries did not appear to be life-threatening.

    Authorities continue to investigate.
