Bacon, deli turkey recall: 120K pounds of products recalled in 4 states over undeclared allergen

WASHINGTON — If you have bacon or deli turkey in your fridge or freezer, it's time to check those labels.

According to CNN, Kentucky-based Blue Grass Quality Meats has issued a recall for more than 120,000 pounds of "pork bacon and ready-to-eat turkey products" that contain an undeclared allergen, soy, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service announced Friday in a news release.

"The problem was discovered when the firm's seasoning supplier notified them that the proprietary seasoning, which is not supposed to contain soy, actually contains soy lecithin," the release said.

The recalled products, produced from Oct. 29, 2018, to Nov. 19 of this year, include Blue Grass Cajun Style Turkey Breast marked with sell-by dates of July 1, 2019, to Jan. 9, 2020; Olde World Cajun Style Turkey Breast with sell-by dates of July 1, 2019 to Jan. 1, 2020; Robinson's Premium Cajun Style Turkey Breast with sell-by dates of July 12, 2019, to Jan. 16, 2020; Troyer Cajun Style Turkey Breast with sell-by dates of July 18, 2019, to Jan. 21, 2020; and Troyer Cajun Style Bacon with sell-by dates of Jan. 28, 2019, to Feb. 19, 2020, the release said. The meat products, all labeled with establishment No. P-7417 or EST. 7417, were sent to retailers in four states: Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia and Michigan, according to the FSIS. After it arrived, the turkey "may have been offered as retail-sliced deli" meat, the agency warned.

Although no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recall, the FSIS said customers should not eat the products and instead discard or return them.
