LOS ANGELES — Glenn Weiss won an Emmy for Best Directing for a Variety Special Monday, but he made a bigger impression when he proposed to his girlfriend, Jan Svendsen.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Weiss spoke about his mother, who he said died two weeks ago, in his acceptance speech before proposing to his partner with his mother’s engagement ring.
“Mom always believed in finding the sunshine in things, and she adored my girlfriend, Jan. Jan, you are the sunshine in my life, and mom was right, ‘Don’t ever let go of your sunshine.’ You wonder why I don't like to call you my girlfriend Because I want to call you my wife,” Weiss said.
The audience erupted in shock and surprise. Cameras captured stars -- from Leslie Jones to Sterling K. Brown, who presented the award, standing up to applaud the moment as Svendsen walked toward the stage.
“This is the ring my dad put on my mom’s finger 65 -- 67 years ago,” he said before joking, “And to my sisters and brothers, I didn’t swipe it! Dad knows I have it.”
After placing the ring on Svendsen’s finger, Weiss got down on one knee and asked, “Will you marry me?”
She said yes.
