WORCESTER, Mass. — A Massachusetts firefighter died fighting a four-alarm fire on Stockholm Street in Worcester early Wednesday.
"Our city has suffered an unimaginable loss with the death of Fire Lt. Jason Menard," Worcester Fire Chief Michael Lavoie said, according to Boston's WFXT.
Menard died after he returned to help a trapped firefighter out a window, Lavoie said.
What appeared to be at least one victim was seen being carried to an ambulance. It's unclear how many people were injured or their current conditions. Officials are expected to release more information at an 8 a.m. news conference.
The fire has been knocked down but firefighters remain at the scene. Investigators from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) confirmed they were at the scene for an ongoing investigation.
