Kachinka, which has served Russian food at its Portland location for five years, was victimized by the hate symbol, which restaurant co-owner and chef Bonnie Morales called “unsettling.”

Her parents fled the Soviet Union because of anti-Semitism, The Oregonian reported.

"They came to this country to be able to be Jewish and not suffer for it," Morales told KOIN.

Morales said she originally did not want to publicize the vandalism, which had been removed by Tuesday, but decided to use social media to put out a message condemning symbols of hate.

"It felt like a violation at such a deep level, that someone who we welcomed, fed and took care of would do something like this to us," an official with the restaurant wrote on its Facebook page. "This is the last thing we expected to experience here in Portland."

"It's so important to not normalize this and to not sweep this under the rug," Morales told The Oregonian. "We all have to be up in arms anytime anyone does anything hateful like this."
