Target is trying to court new employees, and it’s adding to the company’s benefits package to do it.
Company officials announced this week that it is expanding the benefits that families can use -- specifically backup care options and a new paid family leave program.
Originally the backup care solution option was at corporate headquarters, but now stores and distribution center workers will have access to 20 days total of in-center child care or in-home child and elder care.
The care will be paid for by Target at the rate of $20 a day through a partner network of providers or subsidized if the worker uses an in-home care provider, CBS News.
As for the paid family leave benefit, both salary and hourly workers, including part-time staff, can use paid family leave to care for a sick family member, welcoming a new baby or adopting a child.
Now workers will have four weeks of paid parental leave, CBS News reported.
This is separate from the normal medical leave already offered. They now get double the paid time off than they did prior to the new amended benefits that go into effect on June 30.
Maternity leave is an additional six to eight weeks paid leave, CNN reported.
The company also recently doubled reimbursements for adoption and surrogacy costs.
Target has about 350,000 part-time and full-time hourly employees, CNN reported.
