Maryland Teacher Sent 1 Topless Photo to Eighth Grader, Said He Had ‘To Earn The Rest,’ Report Says

HAGERSTOWN, Md. — A Maryland middle school teacher is facing sexual misconduct charges after allegedly sending a naked photo of herself through social media to an eighth grade student last summer.

Vallie Lawver, 26, a math teacher at Western Heights Middle School in Hagerstown, is accused of sexual solicitation of a minor and display of obscene material to a minor, according to WDVM-TV.

Authorities said Lawver sent the photo, which "showed her face and exposed breasts," to the former student via Snapchat sometime between June and August 2018, WDVM reported. The photo also reportedly included the message, "Only 1. You have to earn the rest."

The student took a screen grab of the photo before it disappeared and told police that during that same period of time last summer, Lawver had asked him to send a sexually explicit photo of himself to her, which he said he never did.

The investigation got underway after the photo of Lawver surfaced on social media and parents contacted authorities.

The school district said it found out about the photo in early April and that Lawver has been let go effective July 1.
