NASSAU BAY, Texas — A Texas police sergeant has died after she was struck by a driver as he fled a traffic stop Tuesday night in Nassau Bay, authorities said.
"During the arrest, the suspect fought with officers and was able to break free and re-enter the vehicle," the release said.
The man struck one of the responding officers, Sgt. Kaila Sullivan, 43, of Friendswood, as he fled the scene, officials said. The 16-year Nassau Bay police veteran later died at a Webster hospital, according to the release.
Investigators have found the man’s vehicle but are still searching for the suspect, the city said.
"We urge all citizens to be cautious of their surroundings and stay vigilant," the release said.
