Top card: Hossein Ensan of Germany wins $10M at World Series of Poker

LAS VEGAS — Hossein Ensan's poker face made him a very rich man late Tuesday night.

The German resident won the 2019 World Series of Poker Main Event late Tuesday night, capturing the $10 million grand prize and the event's bracelet, ESPN reported.

"It's unbelievable, I cannot understand this moment," Ensan, 55 told ESPN. "I must go to sleep and wake up, and then maybe I know I have the bracelet. Maybe it's a dream. I don't know."

According to WSOP.com, Ensan beat out 8,568 other players during the 10-day event to win his first title. He is also the second German native to win the WSOP title; Pius Heinz won the 2011 Main Event.

Ensan, who was born in Iran, is the third player from that country to win the Main Event, after Monsour Matloubi (1990) and Hamid Dastmalchi (1992), according to the WSOP website. He is also the oldest player to win the event since 61-year-old Noel Furlong took the 1999 title.

Dario Sammartino, of Italy, finished in second place and earned $6 million, CNN reported.

The top two competitors played 101 hands over four hours before Ensan emerged as the winner, according to the WSOP site.

"(Ensan is) a really good guy," Sammartino told ESPN. "I met him a long time ago; we are friends and I really love him, so I'm really happy for him. Of course, I wanted to win this, but he is the winner, so bravo."
