The road was shut down in both directions for nearly four hours while authorities investigated the deadly crash. All lanes were reopened just before 9 a.m.
Authorities identified the victim as 29-year-old Marten Bijvankn of Sandy Springs.
“He was riding his bicycle southbound on Roswell Road, and he was struck by a vehicle that was passing by,” Sandy Springs police Sgt. Sam Worsham said.
The driver of a Chrysler sedan, 34-year-old Antoniette Battlen of Atlanta, crashed and came to a stop about 100 yards up the road. She was taken into custody shortly after officers arrived around 5 a.m., Worsham said. Bijvank was dead at the scene.
In addition to charges related to Bijvank’s death, police said Battle is facing an additional charge of driving without a license.
