ATHENS, Ala. — A 15-year-old from Alabama is facing a manslaughter charge after a 3-month-old baby died earlier this month, authorities said.
According to WAFF-TV and AL.com, the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation began April 8 after deputies responded to a report of a baby who couldn’t breathe at an Athens home. Crews rushed the child to a nearby hospital, where doctors discovered that the infant had suffered head trauma, the news outlets reported. On April 9, the infant was transferred to a Birmingham hospital and died one day later, deputies said.
Deputies on Tuesday arrested a 15-year-old suspect, who is not related to the victim, in connection with the baby’s death, the Sheriff’s Office said. Authorities have not released the suspect’s name, according to the news outlets.
