DES MOINES, Iowa — Two adults were found dead in an Iowa home on Wednesday after a 10-year-old child called 911 to report an injury, authorities said.
The man and woman were found dead in a Des Moines residence, KCCI reported. According to Des Moines Police Department spokesperson Sgt. Paul Parizek, traumatic injury was observed in both people.
Update 7:44 p.m. EDT July 16: Des Moines police identified the bodies as Miranda Arlene Stierwalt, 27, and Daniel Francis Dooley, 33, KCCI reported. According to a preliminary investigation, police said Dooley fatally shot Stierwalt and then shot and killed himself.
Police said the 10-year-old was Stierwalt’s child from a prior relationship, the television station reported. The child was not inside the home at the time of the incident, police said.

Original report: The child told the 911 dispatcher that their mother was injured, the Des Moines Register reported. The child was not hurt, Parizek told reporters. He declined to elaborate further.

The identities of the man and woman are being withheld until family members can be notified, the Register reported.
Parizek would not comment about the possible reasons for the adults’ deaths, saying more information would be released Thursday morning.
