CHICAGO — Two Chicago officers were injured after being shot Sunday morning by a suspect, department officials said.
Chicago police spokesperson Tom Ahern said the officers were responding to a call of shots fired around 7:19 a.m. in the Lawndale area when the suspect started shooting at them after they arrived, WBBM reported.
Ahern said the suspect and the two officers were shot and taken to different hospitals for treatment, WLS reported.
The suspect was in stable condition, WBBM reported. One of the officers was shot in the hand and the other in the upper body. They are both in stable condition.
Chicago police said 29 officers have been shot at this year. Of those, six officers have been injured by gunfire, WBBM reported.
Officers were both struck.
