2nd arrest made after Alabama infant’s body burned in diaper bag

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — An Alabama man is the second person arrested in connection to the April death of a Birmingham infant, whose body was burned and found in a diaper bag, authorities said.

Terry Dewayne Hinson Jr., 25, was arrested Wednesday night and charged with abuse of a corpse, AL.com reported. The charge is the same as the one facing the child’s mother, Jasilyn Shebreit Hughes, 27, of Birmingham, who was arrested Sept. 23.

Hinson is Hughes' boyfriend. He was booked into the Jefferson County Jail on Wednesday night. Bail for Hinson and Hughes was set for $250,000 each.

It is unclear how 4-month-old Jahzara Harris died, and both Hinson and Hughes have not been charged with causing the infant’s death, AL.com reported.

According to court documents, on April 1, Hughes put the baby’s body in a diaper bag and set fire to the remains, which she abandoned in an alley.

Officials have not said how the infant died, AL.com reported. Hughes and Hinson have not been charged with any crimes accusing them of causing the child’s death.

Under Alabama law, a person commits the crime of abuse of a corpse, a Class C felony, if he or she knowingly treats a human corpse in a way that would “outrage ordinary family sensibilities.”

Documents regarding Hinson’s arrest have not yet been made public.
