Alabama man accused of spanking 3-year-old with a phone charger cord

An Alabama man is accused of child abuse after authorities said he spanked a 3-year-old small child with a phone charger cord.

Scotty Ray Kilgore, 29, of Boaz, was arrested Wednesday and charged with child abuse via torturing and willfully abusing a child under the age of 18, according to booking records at the Etowah County Jail.

“The charge is (a) Class C felony,” investigator VaShaunda Ragland told WBMA.

According to the sheriff’s office, the victim suffered excessive bruising on the body after being spanked with the cord, AL.com reported. According to charging documents, the child suffered injuries to the arms, legs and buttocks, the website reported.

The U.S. Marshal’s Service assisted the sheriff’s office in the case, AL.com reported.

Kilgore is being held at the Etowah County Detention Center, and his bail was set at $15,000, according to jail records.
