Alaskan man steals fire truck, drives 15 miles to bar with emergency lights on

EAGLE RIVER, Alaska — A fisherman in Eagle River, Alaska broke into a fire station, jumped into a fire truck and broke down the station bay door and then drove with the lights on for at least 15 miles before arriving at a bar in neighboring town, according to police.

Dawson Cody Porter of Eagle River was arrested Saturday in front of Fisherman’s Bar in Naknek.

Porter broke into the King Salmon Fire Station using a piece of lumber to break a window, police said.

“Porter caused approximately $10,000 in damage and rendered a $100,000 piece of fire apparatus inoperable until repairs can be made,” police told KTUU.

No one was in the fire station when Porter broke in, according to Police Chief John Rhyshek.

Porter drove the fire truck for less than a half hour before he arrived at the bar where two Bristol Bay police officers arrested him, according to Anchorage Daily News.

He was charged with burglary, vehicle theft and criminal mischief. Porter was also charged for violating his conditions of release of a prior arrest, according to KTUU.

In 2017, Porter was arrested with Tevin Cormier for stealing a fire department pickup truck.
