Back to school 2021: Here are some tips to save on school supplies

The upcoming school year may bring some uncertainties, but one thing is sure – you are going to need school supplies.

Families with children in elementary through high school will spend an average of $848.90 on school items, which is $59 more than last year, according to the National Retail Federation, and parents are looking for any way to save.

Below are a few tips on cutting the cost of sending your student back to school.

· Amazon has a large selection of school supplies.

· Apple is offering a free pair of AirPods with some of their MacBook models.

· Best Buy has savings on Chromebooks.

· Dollar Tree has supplies for $1.

· Gap: Sign up for Gap emails for a 25% off coupon.

· H&M: Join H&M’s loyalty program and get 10% off your next purchase.

· Kohl’s: Sign up for Kohl’s emails to get 15% off.

· Macy’s: Create a Macy’s profile and get 25% off your next order.

· Office Depot/Office Max has up to 55% off select school supplies.

· Rakuten, the online cash-back shopping venue, lets you shop through its app at more than 2,500 retailers. You get cash on your purchases.

· Staples has school supplies for less than $1 each.

· Target has deals on supplies and clothes.

· The Children’s Place: Sign up for The Children’s Place text alerts and get $10 off.

· Walmart has not only back-to-school supplies, but also school supply lists for local schools.

You can save by shopping your state’s tax-free event. Some states do not have these tax-free shopping holidays. If your state is not listed below, the tax-free event has passed, or your state does not have one this year.

· Connecticut: Aug. 15–Aug. 21

· Florida: July 31–Aug. 9

· Iowa: Aug. 6–Aug. 7

· Maryland: Aug. 8–Aug. 14
