Britney Spears and Sam Asghari made it official on Sunday, announcing their engagement in a pair of Instagram posts.
Spears, 39, and Asghari, 27, announced the pending nuptials less than one week after the “Slumber Party” singer’s father, James “Jamie” Spears, filed a petition to end his daughter’s conservatorship, effectively relinquishing 13 years of control over the singer’s finances and life.
Spears appears in both videos to wear the ring on her right hand, rather than the traditional ring finger of her left hand.
Asghari’s manager, Brandon Cohen, released a separate statement, obtained by People magazine, stating he is “proud to celebrate and confirm the engagement.”
“The couple made their long-standing relationship official today and are deeply touched by the support, dedication and love expressed to them,” Cohen stated, adding that Spears’ new ring was designed by New York City jeweler Roman Malayev.
Spears then showcased her newest rock in Asghari’s post, exclaiming, “Yes!” when he asked if she likes her ring.
Asghari, an Iranian-born actor-fitness enthusiast, told Forbes in March that he was ready to move forward in both his career and relationship with the Grammy-winning artist.
“My priorities in life are to remain humble and understand where I came from and where I’m going,” he told Forbes, adding, “I want to take my career to the next step when it comes to acting. I want to take my relationship to the next step, as well. I don’t mind becoming a father. I want to be a young dad.”
The couple, who were first linked romantically during a music video shoot, have been dating for nearly five years.
