California school bus driver arrested for allegedly supplying fentanyl to students

RIVERSIDE, Calif. — A California school bus driver was arrested Tuesday for allegedly supplying fentanyl to students, officials say.

The Riverside Police Department says they were contacted by a school staff member who told officers that another employee was possibly providing fentanyl to students. The school is a non-public school for students with special needs from kindergarten through 12th grade.

During their investigation, officers learned that a student who attended the school overdosed from suspected fentanyl the week before at home. RPD says a school investigation revealed that a bus driver who is also a campus security guard was the employee suspected of providing fentanyl to students.

KTTV says police identified the bus driver as Melissa Harloam-Garrison, who also happens to live on campus with her husband, David Garrison, 58. Officers searched their home and found more than 100 suspected fentanyl pills, along with two guns and ammunition.

KCBS says Harloam-Garrison was arrested and booked on recommended charges of possession of narcotics for sale, sale of narcotics to minors, possession of controlled substances, a drug addict in possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm on a school campus, prohibited possession of a firearm and child endangerment. RPD says she’s being held on a $50,000 bail.

Her husband, David Garrison, was also arrested on recommended charges of possession of a firearm on campus and prohibited possession of a firearm, according to KCBS. He is being held on a $25,000 bail.
