While many pest control companies have seen an uptick in people wanting help dealing with mosquitoes, the World Health Organization say there is no evidence that confirms mosquitoes can transmit COVID-19.

“The new coronavirus cannot be transmitted through mosquito bites,” the WHO said.

The organization’s commentary on the spread of the virus as it relates to mosquitoes is as follows:

“To date there has been no information nor evidence to suggest that the new coronavirus could be transmitted by mosquitoes. The new coronavirus is a respiratory virus which spreads primarily through droplets generated when an infected person coughs or sneezes, or through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose. To protect yourself, clean your hands frequently with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water. Also, avoid close contact with anyone who is coughing and sneezing.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also said that there is no data to suggest that this new coronavirus or other similar coronaviruses are spread by mosquitoes or ticks.

“The main way that COVID-19 spreads is from person to person,” the organization said.
