Coronavirus: Fall Out Boy donates $100,000 to relief efforts in Chicago

CHICAGO — Fall Out Boy is donating $100,000 to relief efforts amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In a Facebook post Friday, the rock band said it would pledge the money to the Chicago Community COVID-19 Response Fund, which benefits area nonprofit groups.

“Chicago is the city that we grew up in,” the post read. “It’s important to us that we give back and support the community and local heroes who are on the front lines any way we can.”

The band added that the donation, made through the Fall Out Boy Fund, “will help support the local food banks, direct monetary support for those who have suffered loss of income and jobs as a result of COVID-19, and much more.”

As of Wednesday morning, Illinois had reported 13,553 coronavirus cases and 380 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University. At least 9,509 of the cases and 249 deaths occurred in Cook County, where Chicago is located.
