A spokesperson for the streaming service declined to specify to The New York Times whether it was a cast or crew member who tested positive for the coronavirus but did confirm that the individual is now isolating.

Deadline first reported the indefinite production pause early Saturday morning.

The production, which is set and filmed in the United Kingdom, was paused Thursday for 24 hours following a positive COVID-19 test from a crew member, but no cast members had been affected by the virus at that point, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Meanwhile, public health officials have confirmed a recent surge in the number of U.K. COVID-19 infections involving the delta variant, THR reported.

The surge has also affected London’s West End theaters, after members of such productions as “Hairspray” at the London Coliseum and “Romeo and Juliet” at Shakespeare’s Globe Theater tested positive for the coronavirus earlier this month, the Times reported.

According to Netflix, “Bridgerton” became a breakout hit for the streaming service, earning the title of most-watched series after reaching a record 82 million households globally in the month following its Christmas Day release, the outlet reported.

The Regency-era saga, based on Julia Quinn’s romance novels, follows the “drama of a courting season in 1813 London, with social machinations, scheming and scandal galore as high-society families contrive to pair off their young eligibles,” the Times reported.

Meanwhile, the series was nominated recently for 12 Emmy Awards, including nods for outstanding drama and leading actor in a drama for Regé-Jean Page, who played Simon Bassett, the popular Duke of Hastings.
