Coronavirus: Oregon family featured on ‘Deadliest Catch,’ Pacific Seafood donate 30K pounds of fish

NEWPORT, Ore. — An Oregon family who appeared on the documentary series "Deadliest Catch" and a seafood company have joined forces to donate thousands of pounds of fish amid the coronavirus pandemic.

According to KATU and KPTV, Newport's Retherford family, who appeared on "Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove," and Clackamas-based Pacific Seafood recently contributed 30,000 pounds of rockfish to the Oregon Food Bank to help residents in need after the virus began to spread.

"I went to my husband one day and I said, ‘I think we need to be a part of this,'" Kelley Retherford told KPTV. "I think it’s important. It’s an opportunity for us to be able to give back to the community.”

Oregon Food Bank CEO Susannah Morgan called the donation "particularly valuable" because fresh seafood donations are "not that common," KATU reported.

As of Wednesday morning, Oregon had reported at least 3,358 confirmed coronavirus cases and 130 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
